Ned - Black Greyhound

Ned

Ned is a lovely ex-racing Greyhound who was born on the 10th August 2010. He is 100% perfect in the house, very friendly and thrives on love and affection. He is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Before Ned arrived here he was attacked by 2 off lead labradoodles and the incident has made him wary of dogs other than greyhounds. Sheep, horses and squirels don't bother him.
In areas where he is the only dog Ned walks nicely on the lead and is quite relaxed, but when he sees another dog he becomes anxious.

REHOMED: Saturday 17th March

Seve - Black Greyhound

Seve is a super black ex-racing greyhound who was born in April 2012 and weighs 37.4kg.
He was born in the racing kennels and after he'd finished racing he remained there for 2 years waiting for a place in a rescue centre until he came here.
Seve is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. When he arrived he missed his kennel mate at night and wimpered until Katie on the third night joined him and he settled. Seve was the one the other pups in the litter tended to bully and he enjoys companionship. He is a very happy, playful lad who loves being kissed and cuddled and will give you kisses back. He's super on the lead, loves meeting people, is okay with other breeds of dogs and children, travels well in a car, but can become frightened if he's left on his own in the house hence us wanting to find him a home where he won't be left on his own, or one with a companion he can live with. - Can you help us find him that home?

Joyce - black & white greyhound

Joyce is a black and white ex-racing greyhound who has been living in a home for the past 3 years and came to us because her owners had to move into a flat where they were not allowed to take her.

REHOMED: Friday 10th March

Maeve - greyhound

Maeve is a small white and bindle ex-racing greyhound who was born in July 2012. She weighs about 21 kg. and she is calm around other breeds of dogs, has no issues, is good on the lead and travels well in a car.

REHOMED: Sunday 12th March

Belle is a small black ex-racing greyhound who is small dog friendly and cat trainable. She walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car, is spayed, inoculated and microchipped. Having lived in the house since arriving here she's almost house trained.

REHOMED: Sunday 5th March

Jenny
Jenny is a pretty brindle ex-racing greyhound who is spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She walks lovely on the lead and travels well in a car.

REHOMED: Wednesday 15th March

Danni
Danni is a black ex-racing greyhound who weighs 26.3kg. She is 2 years old (3 in August), quiet yet friendly, likes to play and loves being stroked and cuddled.
Danni is spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She is fine with children, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car. Since being here she's been out for a walk with a terrier whom she was okay with.

RESERVED

Buddy
Buddy is a 3 year old black ex-racing greyhound who weighs 34.25 kg.
Buddy is inoculated and microchipped, has a lovely nature and is a friendly lad who walks nicely on the lead, is fine with children and when he meets other breeds of dogs on his walks he ignores them. Since being here he's been out for a walk with a terrier whom he appeared okay with.

RESERVED

Stephan
Stephan is a handsome male brindle ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 1st July 2013 and weighs 28.7kg. He is neutered, inoculated and microchipped. We are told he has a nice nature, is okay around children and walks nicely on the lead. The kennel Stephan came from had a collie X and he was used to him milling around the kennels. Since being here he's been out for a walk with a terrier whom he was interested in, but we never let him get too close because by this time the terrier was getting fed up and turning somewhat grumpy.

RESERVED

Bolt
Bolt is a stunning white and black male ex-racing greyhound who weighs 29.7kg. and is neutered, inoculated and microchipped. He's in the kennel at the moment where he's a bit excited, but I've seen this before and once they get in the house they calm down and are fine. He has a nice nature, is okay around children, walks lovely on the lead. The kennel Bolt came from has a collie X and he's used to him milling around the kennels and since being here he's been out for a walk with a terrier whom he ignored. - Can you help us find him a new home?

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. During December 2009 we established the SOUTH LAKES branchof the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT). We have now fostered and re-homed in excess of 400 greyhounds.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes. The voluntary work we do is a memorial to our darling Penny.

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back, lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Many thousands of Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

JENNY & STUART'S
CURRENT
GREYHOUNDS

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013. Not
quite 2 years old she didn't
make the grade for racing,
but she raced headlong
into our hearts and home.

Fawn Greyhound

Star came into our lives on the 18th October 2015. When our 4 month old grand daughter cried for her bottle, he came over and rested his head on her shoulder and within a minute she was calm. It sealed his future with us.

Robbie - black Greyhound

We had Robbie a year before we found him a lovely home. Sadly within a few days of him being there he was attacked by 2 off lead terriers that meant Robbie visiting the vets. All confidence lost with new owners and Robbie so he came back here where Robbie became the newest member of our family.

Jenny and Stuart's hounds - gone but not forgotten

George in 1997
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. Arriving in April 1997
he had been badly treated and
was about 9 years old. Sadly we
only had him 3½ months when
he died. He was our first true love.
He was our
'Gentleman George'.

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the moment
he walked through the door - he is
the one who helped heal the
wounds following Bobby's death.
Sadly Solo passed away on the
12th February 2014 aged 7 years
9 months old.

Bobby and Penny
Bobby and Penny arrived the
day after George died.
FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died in
February 2004 aged 12½ years
old. Bobby passed away
on 26th April 2009
aged 13 years 10 months.

Fawn Greyhound
Sandy who we nicknamed
'the beast' arrrived on the
4th November 2007. In August
2008 we adopted him and at
11.25am on Friday 22nd July
2016 he passed away aged
13 years, 4 months.

Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005. She helped
us foster nearly 340 dogs.
Indi passed away on the 20th July
2015 aged 14 years 3 months.
