Ned - Black Greyhound

Ned

Ned is a lovely ex-racing Greyhound who was born on the 10th August 2010. He is 100% perfect in the house, very friendly and thrives on love and affection. He is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Before Ned arrived here he was attacked by 2 off lead labradoodles and the incident has made him wary of dogs other than greyhounds.
In areas where he is the only dog Ned walks nicely on the lead and is quite relaxed, but when he sees another dog he becomes anxious. He now wears a red coat saying "I'm scared of other dogs" and we are teaching him the command 'back' . When he sees another dog we say "back" and he backs up to stand with his head close to our legs and
his body behind us for protection. He will sometimes bark at other dog(s) but that's to make out he's a big tough guy and for them to go away, backing up behind us should cause this to stop as he learns to trust the one he's walking with. What Ned needs is Patience, Love and Consistency and he will get there. - Can you help us find Ned his forever home?

Lil - Brindle Greyhound

Lil

Lil is a beautiful brindle greyhound who was born in April 2012 and weighs about 30kg.
Lil is spayed, house trained, inoculated and microchipped.
She has beautiful 'tiger' eyes and is a very laid back girl who is loving, walks well on a lead, pays no attention to other dogs when out walking and from the other breeds she's met she seems okay. She loves children, slow walks and doing nothing too quickly.

REHOMED: Wednesday 30th November

Billy - white and black greyhound

Billy

Billy is one of Princess's pups. Born the 16th December 2013 he is Dotty and Crystal's brother.
He is black and white, weighs 31 kg, is housetrained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped
Billy is a lovely friendly lad who enjoys being cuddled and playing - at times much like a puppy still. He can open our kitchen door! Walks okay on the lead, is fine with children and has no problems with smaller dogs, tending to just sniff them and backs off if they bark back.

REHOMED: Sunday 27th November

Toya - Fawn Greyhound

Toya
Toya is a very pretty fawn ex-racing greyhound who weighs about 25kg and was born on the 21st August 2013. She is spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She's a very friendly girl who likes children and loves to nibble your hand.
During August 2015 she fractured her hock while playing in a field, but this has been pinned and all is now okay, she's in no pain, but she will occasionally hop to get somewhere quicker.

REHOMED: Monday 28th November

Ben - Black Greyhound

Ben

Ben is a black ex-racing greyhound who is a big gentle giant weighing about 37.5kg. He was born in January 2012, is neutered, house trained, inoculated and microchipped.
He's a lovely dog who has a calm nature, enjoys being stroked and given attention, doesn't bother about other dogs, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car.

REHOMED: Monday 28th November

Denise is a lovely white and black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 16th December 2013, weighs around 25kg and is the sister of Billy, Dotty and Crystal. She is okay with other breeds of dogs and travels well in a car. - Can you help us find her a new home?

Sparky is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2012, weighs 32k and has a nice nature. He is one of Star and Princess's pups and Beauty's (Ella) and Hawkeye's litter brother.
Sparky is a tall, quiet, lovely natured dog and out of all the litter he reminds his owner/trainer most of Star with his nature, He is 32.5 kg in weight, travels well in the car and is okay with other breeds of dogs, both large and small.

REHOMED: Sunday 4th December

Annie
Annie is a 4 year old white and blue ex-racing greyhound who weighs around 28k.
She is house trained, inoculated and microchipped.
Annie can't be spayed until the 2nd week in January. She has a lovely temperament, is okay with children, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car.

RESERVED

Charlie
Charlie is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in August 2011 and his racing weight was 31.5kg. He is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
Charlie is a friendly dog who likes attention and can get a little excited when he's getting ready to go for his walk, but once out he's fine on the lead, ignores other breeds of dogs. and is okay in the car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Bruno
Bruno is a 3 year old black ex-racing greyhound who is house trained, neutered, inoculated, microchipped. During March 2016 he broke his hock but this has been plated and all now seems okay.
Bruno is a real gentleman, very much like Kit in that he has a soft nature, is okay on the lead, fine with children, ignores cats as they cross the road in front of him when he's out walking and travels well in a car. - Can you help us find him a new home?

REHOMED: Friday 9th December

Seve - Black Greyhound

Seve is a super black ex-racing greyhound who was born in April 2012 and weighs 37.4kg.
He was born in the racing kennels and after he'd finished racing he remained there for 2 years waiting for a place in a rescue centre until he came here.
Seve is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. When he arrived he missed his kennel mate at night and wimpered until Katie on the third night joined him and he settled. Seve was apparently the one the other pups in the litter tended to bully and he desperately craves companionship. He is super on the lead, playful and is a very friendly greyhound who loves being kissed and cuddled.
Seve is looking for a new home with another greyhound to keep him company. - Can you help us find him that home.

Molly
(cat trainable
)
Molly is a small black ex-racing greyhound who is spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She is cat trainable, walks lovely on a lead and travels well in a car. - Can you help us find her a new home?

He can be a little unsure with new people but soon comes around once he gets to know you and gives you a lovely welcome. He is really good on the lead and has hs a nice nature. . - Can you help us find him a new home?

Agnis

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. During December 2009 we established the SOUTH LAKES branchof the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT). We have now fostered and re-homed in excess of 400 greyhounds.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes. The voluntary work we do is a memorial to our darling Penny.

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back, lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Many thousands of Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013. Not
quite 2 years old she didn't
make the grade for racing,
but she raced headlong
into our hearts and home.

Fawn Greyhound

Star came into our lives on the 18th October 2015. When our 4 month old grand daughter cried for her bottle, he came over and rested his head on her shoulder and within a minute she was calm. It sealed his future with us.

Jenny and Stuart's hounds - gone but not forgotten

George in 1997
George introduced us to the world
of hounds. Arriving in April 1997
he had been badly treated and
was about 9 years old. Sadly we
only had him 3½ months when
he died. He was our first true love.
He was our
'Gentleman George'.

Solo - brindle greyhoun
Solo melted our heart the moment
he walked through the door - he is
the one who helped heal the
wounds following Bobby's death.
Sadly Solo passed away on the
12th February 2014 aged 7 years
9 months old.

Bobby and Penny
Bobby and Penny arrived the
day after George died.
FOSTERING GREYHOUNDS
IS OUR MEMORIAL TO OUR
DARLING
PENNY
who died in
February 2004 aged 12½ years
old. Bobby passed away
on 26th April 2009
aged 13 years 10 months.

Fawn Greyhound
Sandy who we nicknamed
'the beast' arrrived on the
4th November 2007. In August
2008 we adopted him and at
11.25am on Friday 22nd July
2016 he passed away aged
13 years, 4 months.

Indi in March 2005
When Penny died Bobby
chose Indi as his new
companion and here she
is in March 2005. She helped
us foster nearly 340 dogs.
Indi passed away on the 20th July
2015 aged 14 years 3 months.
