Greyhounds in long-term fosterer homes:

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.

Fostering and re-homing greyhounds in the South Lake District, Cumbria

(now called Roxy)

Madonna arrived on Friday 4th May 2012
Went to her new home on Wednesday 9th May 2012.

White and black greyhound
Madonna is a small white and black ex-racing Greyhound who is spayed, innoculated and microchipped. She has a lovely nature, travels well in the car, walks nicely on the lead and from what we've been told is fine with children and other breeds of dogs.

Went to her new home on Wednesday 9th May 2012.
Madonna's Diary
4th May 2012
We collected Madonna this afternoon and drove her home. She jumped happily into the back of the car from the van which she arrive in and shortly after leaving for the journey home she lay down and slept.
Arriving home she met our greyhounds then explored the garden before coming in the house and settling with the other.
9th May 2012

This afternoon Madonna's new owner called to complete the adoption paperwork and take her home with her. Madonna is now going to be called Roxy and she sat so elegently on the mat while we were talking and filling in the forms. Once all was completed she walked happily to her new owner's car and jumped in. Madonna, or Roxy as she is now to be called is a lovely sweet little girl and we wish her a long and happy life in her new home.

We received an email today from Roxy's owner letting us know how she is settling in. She says Roxy has certainly come out of her shell. To be honest, she's is a bit more 'lively' and vocal than sheI was expecting, but she is hoping that with a bit of training, 'all will be well'. Her worst habit is lunging and leaping up on people and other dogs, startling and sometimes frightening them. However, Roxy is extremely clever, so it should be just a matter of time before she learns some manners.
Roxy does adore Max (though she can't say he feels the same!) and she walks perfectly on-lead, but her owner is still looking for a safe, fully-enclosed field where she can have a good sprint. Since she still doesn't respond to voice commands, her owner can't chance letting her off anywhere less-secure.
25th July 2012
Roxy's new owner says she may be a bit of a devil, but she's also extremely interesting  - she likes to 'hunt' birds, is utterly convinced that her neighbour's concrete rabbit sculpture is real, and has a weakness for raspberries! (She's been 'picking her own' in their back yard!).

We received an email today from Roxy's owner letting us know they all arrived safely in Canada and here is her email:

" Thought you might like an update from 'across the pond' and a new picture including Roxy (Boherash Madonna), who's on the left side of the photo.
Yesterday was a national holiday - Canada Day - and our first stop was at a dog charity's yard sale/ barbeque (we attend their dog park regularly), where the picture was taken.
We're all doing very well and have settled into our 'new home', which we moved into on April Fools' Day. It's a 3-bed, 1.5 bath old farm house (it's over a century old, which is ancient over here!), and has over 2 acres of land, including a large pond and an orchard. I've fenced-in the back yard, so the devilish Ms. Roxy has plenty of room to sprint ... Max still prefers to 'stroll'.
