Greyhounds in long-term fosterer homes:

CAN YOU TEMPORARILY FOSTER A GREYHOUND FOR US?

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.
please contact Jenny or Stuart

Magic arrived on Saturday 17th March 2012
Went to his new home on Sunday 1st April 2012.

Magic's arrival and a brief history

Black greyhound
Magic was handed over to a dog pound in Northern Ireland who asked if someone could look after him until we could arrange transport to bring him here. During this time he stayed with a vet who gave him the name Magic and who kindly neutered him for us and gave him his first inoculation.
Magic is a handsome black greyhound who was born in 2010. What a super nature he has and so happy and loveable. Magic is house trained, neutered and inoculated, walks nicely on the lead, travels will in the car and from what we've been told is alright with children and other breeds of dogs.
Magic's Diary
17th March 2012
Magic was collected from the vet in Ireland by the professional dog transporter who brought Timmy and Pebbles here. I met him at Penrith and brought Magic back home with me. Magic wasn't too sure what was happening when he was lifted in the back of my car, but once the door was closed he simply lay down and went to sleep. Back home he jumped from the car and walked into the garden where we introduced him to our greyhounds one at a time. He just stood and let each one have a sniff then we brought him in the house. When it was time for him to go out we simply let him in the garden where he wandered around with the others, then came in the house with them and settled on the kitchen floor to watch what we were doing.
He's been no trouble at all with settling in and seems to be taking everything in his stride.
18th March 2012
Magic wanted to sleep in our room last night, but with Flower on a bed next to our bed and Indi deciding to lay down the law he had to sleep in the living room with the others. In the end he slept just the other side of our bedroom door, which we had to almost shut to reduce the risk of Indi putting him in his place. Around 3am I heard him walking on the floor boards, so I got up and let him and Flower out. All done and back in again I persuaded him to sleep in the living room on one of the dog beds. Not sure when he moved, because I heard no noise, but this morning he was fast asleep just the other side of our bedroom door again.
He eats his food nicely, but is easily distracted with what the others are doing and something that will pass as he settles, He's shown no inclination so far to steal food and there have been no accidents in the house. Magic has settled in very quickly, loves roaming the garden in the sunshine, is always wagging his tail and is a really friendly dog.
This afternoon Pat arrived with Remy, Lily and Hendrix her whippet so they could all have a run in our small paddock. Magic thought Hendrix fascinating to begin with - a smaller version of himself, wanted to mount Lily who was having none of it and when he took a look at Remy he was given the older dog grumble to a younger dog to watch his step - poor Magic, but he soon learn't his place and that is a good thing.
He pulled on the lead a little when on our walk and swayed from side to side a bit rather than walking in a straight line. This may have been because he wanted to catch up with Stuart and those walking with him, or it may have been the excitement of a new walk, because on our way back he walked a lot better.
This evening he came to the pub with us along with Indi and Flower. Not sure of jumping in the car, but once in he soon lay down with the others for the short drive. He wasn't sure of what to make of the pub at first, but after watcing Indi fall asleep in front of the log fire next to Flower he decided to do the same. It didn't take him long to work out that as people pass if he looks nicely at them and wags his tail they will stop and say hello. For his first time in a pub he didn't do too bad at all.
Back home, Dentastix eaten, widdle in the garden then crash out in the living room for the rest of the evening - what a life!
21st March 2012
Magic went to the vet this morning where he weighed in at 28.5k. She examined him, took his neutering stitches out and gave him his second inoculation.
1st April 2012
This morning the couple enquiring about a companion for Mindy came with her to see Magic. She was besotted with him from the start and wouldn't leave his side. Her eye's sparkled and she wanted him to play with her, which is most unlike her! We know the family well, so after all the adoption paperwork was complete Magic jumped in the back of their car with Mindy and off they went home. Magic's new world will evolve around pub life with a beer garden, which is dog friendly. It was sad seeing Magic going off to his new home, but we wish him and Mindy and their family a long and happy life together.
15th September 2012
We received an email today letting us know that Magic, now called Bob went for a day out, and his first trip to the beach. Think he enjoyed the experience, especially with Mindy being with him because she knows all about beaches and the fun you can have!
28th March 2013
We received an email today letting us know that Bob has become a beautiful bouncy boy who loves people and is always full of energy, who reminds his owners of Monty sometimes.
30th January 2014
Sadly the relationship between Bob and Evie who went to be his companion at the end of October 2013 never worked out and Evie came back into 'Rescue'. We only found out the full extent of the issues the evening before we were flying to South Africa for a holiday, which never gave us the time to bring her back here so she went to the Yorkshire branch of the Trust.
When they returned home having dropped Evie off Bob was apparently like a different dog. He didn't look for her and showed no signs of distress. He went straight back to being bouncy and playful - all things his owner said had stopped.
It shows that no matter how we try to match dogs with dogs and dogs to people sometimes it is just not to be, and the dogs are more content being apart.
20th December 2015
We heard today from Bob's owners through Facebook that Bob Bob is still the baby of their family. He loves to be curled up in bed with his owners and he gets really excited when they get his Xmas hat out. He's filled a massive hole after the loss of Monty; Blue and the beautiful Mindy who are still sorely missed by the whole family.
