If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.

Dee Dee

Dee Dee arrived on Thursday 22nd August 2013
Went to her new home on Friday 27th September 2013

Dee Dee's arrival and a brief history
Click images for a larger view

Brindle Greyhound
Dee Dee is a beautiful brindle ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 23rd July 2007 and weighs 30.1k.
Dee Dee is a very friendly and affectionate girl who is spayed, inoculated, microchipped and has recently had a dental.
We have been told she is okay around other breeds of dogs and possibly cats, but this we will assess as we get to know her. She walks nicely of the lead and travels well in the car.

Dee Dee's Diary
* The branch kennel at the bottom of our garden is where Dee Dee and the other resident(s) will be for the first day or so until he gets to know the other greyhounds. He has use of our garden and paddock, and once he gets to know the other dogs he will be allowed in the house during the day and all the dogs will then take it in turn to sleep in the house at night, so they become use to sleeping in both the kennel and the house.

12th September 2013
This morning Dee Dee went to the vets for her booster inoculation. She weighed in at 30.1K.
Back home she had her breakfast and lay in the garden most of the day until it began to rain, then we put her back in the kennel with the others.
27th September 2013
This afternoon Dee Dee's new owners called to collect her and while she was saying hello to them Blue came up and wanted a fuss also. There had been talk while they were waiting to collect Dee Dee that they should have Blue also, and this they did.
Both dogs know each other and so off they went together to their new home where we hope they will have a long and happy life together with their new family. Before getting in the car, however, and going home they both walked up to the pub along the road with their new owners for their new owners to get something to eat. Both must have behaved themselves as neither came back here, but got in their car and off they went.
The house seemed so empty tonight and I was somewhat at a loss because we were not expecting Blue going to his new home, so I hadn't prepared myself for his leaving.
We can now go round the garden and fill up the holes that Dee Dee has made especially the one at the top of the bank level with one of the bedrooms, which she used to lay in and sunbathe! She could also watch me as I was doing the bedroom, which she seemed to like. At least there was only the one up there and she didn't dig in a new place if she decided upon a change of scenery.
29th September 2013
We heard today that Dee Dee has been panting quite a lot and seems a bit stressed in her new home at the moment. She can't do stairs and her new owners have to help her up and down them. This makes her quite frightened, but she is getting better.
1st October 2013
We heard today that Dee Dee is settling in slowly, and no where near as stressed as she was when she first went to her new owners. They say she is a lovely girl.
18th October 2013
We received an email today letting us know what a lovely girl they have. She has settled so well, and they are just so thrilled. She has made best friends with Kate, and they walk side by side like they are old friends. She's eating, drinking plenty and learning to play more each day. Her favourite games are digging in the soil and horses stables. She has learnt the stairs now and is confident to run up and down them. Jump on the bed and settee quite without abandon. The treat box is well located and pointed to frequently. Dee Dee's new coat is ordered and so is her flashing collar for the dark lane. So things are good in her world and she is growing in confidence every day.
22nd October 2013
Just letting us know how Dee Dee is doing.  The smallest things can bring so much pleasure.  She has reached some new milestones which her new owner thought we may enjoy.
Dee Dee had her first big free run with their whippet Alice. It was in an enclosed safe paddock and they had a great run together.
Her coat is changing colour, going much redder and has more shine, but the best thing is, the bald patch under her deep ribs is growing fur again.
Her as appetite has increased and she has put a little weight on, not unhealthy, just more covered.
The dreaming is starting to calm down, the crying, woofing and running in her sleep was a lot at first, but now its more a slight scamper and snuffle.
She is also starting to play with toys. Running up and picking up teddies and mouthing them, it's good to see.
But best for for her new owner is that she has started smiling which her owner loves to see. When she grins her whole face lights up and now when she is relaxing her tongue starts to hang out the side of her mouth, so good, she looks really relaxed.
4th November 2013
Well Dee Dee's new owner has tried the lot, new bed, coat, bowls, toys, walks and treats, and she says she could have saved herself all that, because the way to Dee Dee's heart is Muller yogurt with strawberry corner - she goes weak at knees for it!
8th November 2013
Dee dee attended her first party last night. She enjoyed all the delights of crisps, nuts, dips and wine, but she didn't seem to understand that it wasn't all for her, so her party etiquette needs working on!
27th November 2013
We heard today that Dee Dee's owners think she is just great. They can let her off when out walking now and she has a run then comes back back their side. She says to be honest she is completely her girl and is never far from her which she is thrilled about.
She had her first trip to the beach today with two of their other dogs and she had a brilliant time tearing around with the others. Now back home again she is flat out on her bed at the side of her owner - not a peep!
29th December 2013
We received an email today thanking us for our Christmas card and enclosing some pictures of Dee Dee enjoying her first family Christmas, which included a few days holiday on Anglesey. She had a fabulous time and went wild with excitement when she ran in the sea!
21st March 2014
We heard today that Dee Dee and her family are again spending a few days on Anglesey. Dee Dee waits patiently to go to the beach then she mithers her owner until she lets her in the car. They are sure she's just making sure she's not forgotten. As if they would, she goes everywhere possible with them, they love her, spoil her and they say she's just wonderful .
6th August 2014
Dee Dee's owner sent us a couple of photos of her today. The weather had been so hot that Dee Dee decided to take a paddle and soak in the pond she has made her favourite, trouble is there is plenty of mud in there as well as water, so upon her getting out she had to have a wash before she was allowed in the house on the settee for her nap!
