Greyhounds in long-term fosterer homes:

ARE YOU ABLE TO TEMPORARILY FOSTER A GREYHOUND FOR US?

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.
please contact Jenny or Stuart

Black and White Greyhound
Paige is a beautiful black and white ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 4th August 2008. She weighs 28k and is speyed and microchipped. As she arrived without any inoculation paperwork she is in the process of getting her inoculations brought up to date. Paige is a very loving girl who loves to play and looks you straight in the eye. She walks nicely on the lead and travels well in the car.

Went to her new home on Wednesday 21st August 2013

Paige's Diary
* The branch kennel at the bottom of our garden is where Paige and the other resident(s) will be for the first day or so until she gets to know the other greyhounds. She has use of our garden and paddock, and once she gets to know the other dogs she will be allowed in the house during the day and all the dogs will then take it in turn to sleep in the house at night, so they become use to sleeping in both the kennel and the house.

21st July 2013
This afternoon Paige arrived.

11th August 2013
This afternoon Paige's potential new owners came and took her for a walk so they could all get to know each other a little better.
15th August 2013
This afternoon Paige went to the vets for her 2nd inoculation.
21st August 2013
This afternoon Paige went off with her new family where we hope she will have a long and happy life.
27th August 2013
A quick update on Paige's first week with her new family. When she arrived at their house she had a good look around and went to the toilet in the garden, so got lots of praise. She's been good at toileting on the whole, but had a wee on the hall carpet last night. I told her 'no' and growled at her like you said. The kids found this hilarious, but Paige peered at her new mum so shame facedly as it was being cleaned up that she thinks she realised her mistake!
She got a little over enthusiastic about the guinea pigs when she first met them, so got squirted with the water bottle a couple of times - she's always observed when she's out the back with them but if she doesn't get used to them soon her new mum will move them so no accidents happen!
She also got a little over enthusiastic about meeting other breeds of dogs when first out walking too and reared up at a couple, which scared the other dogs and earned her owner funny looks from the other owners (especially as she is so muscular and was wearing a muzzle). Her owner found that people were understanding when the situation was explained, but they took her out last night without the muzzle (as she's calmed down now) and people reacted completely differently towards her - they were feeding her their dogs treats and fussing her and she looked like she thought Christmas had come early! They also bumped into Mitzy last night and they said hello to each other, which was nice. She's been for walks at the beach, on the sand, and met some sheep at Furness Abbey and didn't bat an eyelid.
She doesn't like to be on her own at all and follows her new owner everywhere she goes. She's learned that she can lie on the settee only when her cover is on it and jumped into the front seat of their car when her owner was cleaning it (and refused to get out!). She tried to steal her new mum's takeaway on Saturday night, but she heard the bag rattling and scuppered her (it was an extra spicy Thai dish - she wouldn't have stolen again if she'd got a mouthful of it!).
They got her some toys and she loves playing with them. She did have a sprint round the garden when she was first given them and ran full belt into the house - her new owner was really frightened that she was going to hurt herself. The patio doors are closed and guarded when she has play time now! It's amazing to see her running round.
She's a really lovely dog, but quite subdued at the moment. They think that once she settles in she'll be a real character. They all love her to bits and she's had lots of visitors, all of whom she's greeted in a lovely way.
10th November 2013
This morning we received an email enclosing a photo of Paige with one of her new young owners while out for a walk. They say she is well and they are very happy to have her.
24th December 2013
Received an email today thanking us for the Christmas card and letting us know that Paige is doing really well, and is managing to sleep her way through the Christmas chaos!
20th December 2015
We heard via Facebook today that Paige and Poppy are both doing really well. Poppy is becoming more confident, and enjoys having a play with her toys now. She is also less nervous when in new situations. Paige is as lovely and crazy as ever, and is very protective of Poppy. Both are amazing dogs, and they love them to bits.
