Greyhounds in long-term fosterer homes:

ARE YOU ABLE TO TEMPORARILY FOSTER A GREYHOUND FOR US?

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.
please contact Jenny or Stuart

Rossi's arrival and a brief history

black greyhound
Rossi, having lived in a home was handed in to a dog pound before being taken in by another branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust where he's been in kennels for the past few months before coming here.
Rossi is a lovely lad who has previously lived with a terrier, but everyone entering the Rescue kennels looking for a new companion passed him by for no apparrent reason. To give him a better chance of finding his new forever home he is now with us and in a foster home where he will live until we find him his forever home.
Rossi was born on the 24th July 2006.
Rossi is house trained, neutered, microchipped, inoculated and has recently had a dental. He walks nicely on the lead and gets on okay with children.

Went to his new home on Saturday 29th June 2013.
Rossi's Diary
29th May 2013
Flower, Rossi's fosterer emailed to say that within 10 minutes of him arriving he was flat out on the floor relaxing.
30th May 2013
Flower threw this throw on the floor and Rossi lay on it and wouldn't give it up, so she did. He lay there for quite awhile bless him,, but there was no rush because it was on it's way to be washed anyway.
9th June 2013
Flower has been rather concerned that Rossi only picks at his meals, especially having had his dental on Wednesday was cause for concern. She read somewhere that natural yogurt was good for them.
For tea she decided to add acouple of tablespoons of yoghurt to his bisuits and he ate it all, second helpings as well! She thought it may have been a fluke but it seemed to be working and he has eaten 2 full meals plus treats since. Hopefully, now he will start to gain weight again.
Rossi is a lovely lad who loves cuddles and curling up beside Flower on the settee. He has been up stairs three times but no longer wants to follow her, he just calls for her at the bottom of the stairs! She lets him know she is not leaving him and he lays there until she goes back down. He likes playing tig in the garden with their three other dogs, and played with a toy today for the first time,it only lasted a few seconds but it was still lovely to watch.
11th June 2013
We heard today that Rossi's favourite pastime seems to be laing down and watching the world go by!
Rossi also loves being on the highly coveted and prized bean bag. His fosterer said it is so funny when they all go in the garden to do their toilet because it's a race coming back in to see who can get back in first and claim the bean bag prize!
12th June 2013
Today Rossie had two full meals and a small meal and Flower treated him to two small  slices of roast beef because of going to the vets tomorrow poor lad.
Rossie and Flower went on two short bus rides about 10 minutes each and he did really well, he never balked in the least when the bus drew up and jumped on without hesitation. He is also traffic safe with reguards to loud, noisy, rumbling trucks and lorries, none of them phased him. Flower says he is such a layed back easy going little baby boy.
The yogurt trick seems to be working and he has gained a little weight although still a bit ribby. Flower worries for him and he is oblivious to it all bless him. She hopes everything is in his favour tomorrow.
24th June 2013
Rossi went to the vet this morning for his booster inoculation and his dental. He weighed in at 27.9k. The vets scaled his teeth and removed 2 small teeth at the front, 1 along the side and another larger one further back. All went well and he arrived home around 8.00pm to sleep things off. He was still quite wobbly when he got home so slept in the kitchen for a while away from the others and in peace. The vet mentioned he had quite a bit of gum recession so it is important that once his mouth has healed following his dental that his teeth be cleaned regularly to protect the rest.
25th June 2013
Boy, what a difference a day makes. Following his dental yesterday he's lost that 'pinched' look on his face, is much happier and had a MAD 5 minutes run around our garden this morning. We didn't know he could move so fast and all the other greyhounds got out of his way with the exception of Charlie who tried to catch him but couldn't - well Rossi was making the route up as he went along, so had the advantage!
He ate a decent amount of breakfast this morning and slightly more this afternoon. His complete food is soaked so as not to irritate the healing of the cavities where the 4 teeth were removed. Although not too keen on the complete food he will eat it if there is a copious amount of tinned meat mixed with it.
Tonight he's been laying on his back on one of the settees with legs akimbo looking most content!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSSI - 7 TODAY
12th November 2013
Rossi's new owner was  worried about him limping on his front leg, and his right back leg. This afternoon he visited Ken Woodacre who noticed his back leg straight away and said his hip and hock were out, which he manipulated back in place. A rather large corn is the culpret of his front leg limping. Hopefully Rossi will feel a lot happier and more comfortable in himself with his hip and hock back as it should be. Flower who emailed me about Rossi being seen by Ken Woodacre said Rossi was looking good and is obviously well loved.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSSI - 8 TODAY
5th November 2014
We received an email today from Flower letting us know that Rossi's owner took him to the vets today where he had 10 teeth removed. They also said he had gingivitis and a possible bone infection, so he's on antibiotics.
2 weeks ago Rossi went to see Ken Woodacre - Rossi had a trapped sciatic nerve which he released for him and he is now walking fine again with no limp.
2nd December 2014
We received a Christmas card today from Rossi and his owner, which included a note saying Rossi has recovered well from his recent dental work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSSI - 9 TODAY
16th December 2015
We received a Christmas card today saying Rossi was a true gentleman. He's keeping well, but during the year he's had more teeth removed. All healed now and he's back to his happy self.
