JO
(now called Jess)

Jo arrived on Tuesday 6th May 2014
Went to her new home on Saturday 24th May 2014.

Jo's arrival and a brief history

Black and white greyhound
Jo is a lovely black and white female ex-racing greyhound who was born in September 2008 and weighs 27.9k.
We are told she is good with children and walks nicely on the lead by your side, but she is not suitable for a home with cats.

Went to her new home on Saturday 24th May 2014.
Jo's Diary
* The branch kennel at the bottom of our garden is where Jo and the other resident(s) will be for the first day or so until she gets to know the other greyhounds. She has use of our garden and paddock, and once she gets to know the other dogs she will be allowed in the house during the day and all the dogs will then take it in turn to sleep in the house at night, so they become use to sleeping in both the kennel and the house.

6th May 2014
Jo arrived this evening and once her owners / trainers had left we showed her round the garden and introduced her to the dogs she will be sharing the kennel with tonight. Although they will be loose, we will shut Jo in one of the kennel sections so she can be on her own, yet still see them.
7th May 2014
Jo was fine last night and gave me a lovely welcome in the morning when I came to let them all out. She has a lovely sweet nature and will make someone a lovely companion.
14th May 2014
This afternoon a couple who recently lost their dog called to visit the greyhounds. They were quite taken with Jo and took her and another dog for a walk. Upon their return they asked if they could reserve Jo and adopt her after she'd been speyed and inoculated.
16th May 2014
This morning Jo went to the vets for her first inoculation and to be speyed. She weighed in at 27.9k.
All went well with her operation, but she was feeling a little sorry for herself when she arrived home. A good sleep and rest tonight and she will be feeling much happier in the morning once all the anaesthetic is out of her system.
24th May 2014
This afternoon Jo's new owners arrived to adopt her. They wish to change her name to Jess because they used to have a dog called Jo in the past and didn't think it right to call her by the same name despite her knowing Jo. I'm sure she won't mind! Once all the adoption paperwork was complete she happily walked with them to their car and jumped in the back and settled down for the journey to her new home.
25th May 2014
We heard today that Jo seems to have settled in really well, and her new owners are looking forward to lots of happy times together.
Jess has been fine since they brought her home. She travelled well in the car and when they got home they took her right through the house to the garden where she attended to her ablutions. This was followed by  good sniff all around the house (she seemed to approve). Then she had a walk and was good, a little bit of pulling but there's so many new smells to investigate, so it's only to be expected.
When they got back her dinner was served and it disappeared in about the same time as it took to put it in her bowl!
She was good all night and likes her bed. They are sure she is going to give them a lot of pleasure, fun and company for many years to come.
There was one slight misdemeanor though, at tea time last night she jumped up and pinched one of her owner's last piece of scampi, her other owner didn't laugh, he says - honest!
28th May 2014
We received an email letting us know that Jess is settling really well. She is such a quiet girl and takes everything in her stride. Her new purple martingale collar and lead arrived this morning so she is looking very snazzy.
She is booked in to the South Lakes vet on Monday for stitches and her second inoculation, then again on Tuesday for her dental work.
2nd June 2014
We heard today that all went well at the vets and Jess's spaying stitches were removed and she had her second inoculation.
3rd June 2014
We received an email this evening letting us know that Jess's spey stitches are out, inoculations done and a nice shiny set of teeth after her visit to the vets this morning for a dental. So, as her new owners say 'Jess is all sorted and looking lovelier than ever'.
She had 2 teeth removed and a good scale and polish. Her owners arrived home with her at about 6.30pm and she was still quite wobbly, so lifting her out of the car was like trying to manoeuvre half a hundredweight of jelly! They gave her some scrambled eggs for tea, and after a bit of staggering about she flaked out on the living room carpet. They have to take her back in a week for a check up but, hopefully, apart from annual injections, vet visits will be few and far between.
4th June 2014
We heard this morning that Jess is well over her operation now and definitely has her appetite back. Last night she was still hungry so they gave her boiled rice with a tin of sardines in oil mashed up in it, that seemed to be acceptable! This morning it was her usual breakfast, soaked to a mush, and that also disappeared in a flash.
5th June 2014
Jess's owners say her breath is much better now she's had her dental, so hopefully they will be able to keep them that way with her doggie toothpaste. She is now having another sleep after an extremely tiring breakfast - what a life!
10th June 2014
We heard today that Jess had her final visit to Highgate Vets this morning just to check on her teeth and she got the all clear.
Her owners say she continues to settle more and more and last night made herself comfortable on the settee for the first time. They say it's hard to believe how quickly she has come to accept them and their house as hers now.
Yesterday they met one of our previous dogs, May, down at Bardsea beach with her owners and they told them she is a great dog and always makes them laugh when she runs.
19th September 2014
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JO - 6 TODAY
11th December 2014
We received an email today letting us know that Jess is doing just fine and at the moment is doing what greyhounds seem to do best - sleeping!
Her owners say she is a lovely dog and good company. She shows very little interest in playing with toys or chasing balls, but she does love to do 100mph circuits on the beach at low tide or the field near where they live. That is except when she is sniffing every blade of grass along the route for the second time!

Jo has just lost her dew claw and arrived back from the vets with her leg in bandage. She's also had two teeth removed and the rest cleaned so they are looking sparkling again.
