Dogs welcome, large or small, one or more. A Greyhound haven!

The voluntary work Jenny and Stuart started in July 2004 is a memorial to their darling Penny. Without her coming into their lives none of this would have happened.

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.

Deli - Black Greyhound
Deli is a pretty black 18 month old female greyhound who simply refused to race or chase anything. She is a happy girl with a lovely nature.
She is house trained, spayed, inoculated and microchipped. She is also cat trainable, walks nicely on the lead and travels well in a car
.

Went to her new home on Saturday 21st March 2015

Deli's Diary
12th March 2015
This lunch time we met Tom from the West Cumbria branch of the RGT at a point in Penrith because he was bringing us a new dog he'd collected for us. She was called Invite, which didn't sound right so we called her Delight as it rhymed with Invite, but that wasn't an easy name to use so we shortened it to Deli, and Deli she became.
Deli is so sweet. As Stuart says 'she snook in under the radar' because she missed her few days in the kennel and came straight in the house with the others the moment she arrived.
20th March 2015
This evening we took Deli to see Linda and her cats to see how she would react to them. She wasn't too keen on the muzzle and did absolutely nothing when she was shown the cats. She just stood and looked at them, then turned her head away as if to say 'I'm not going anywhere near them!'. When they ran across in front of her she looked, but did nothing, so she is a definate 'cat trainable' greyhound.
When we got home I emailed this information to the couple who are looking for a cat trainable greyhound and who are coming here to visit us tomorrow.
21st March 2015
The couple looking for a cat trainable greyhound arrived this afternoon, fell in love with Deli, completed the adoption paperwork and took Deli home with them. Before she left we checked her microchip details and removed the stitches where she had been spayed before she came to us.
Deli is a lovely young greyhound and we wish her a long and happy life in her new home with her new family.
29th March 2015
We received an email this evening with some photos of Delie letting us know her new owners are now calling her Effie). They wanted to show you how well she has settled in, in just her first week.
Her new owners say she is BRILLIANT with both cats, better than any other dog they've ever seen with cats.
She is a dream on the lead and has had lots of lovely walks along the canal, on Baildon Moor and around the park.
They have had a TV remote and a pair of glasses chewed but not destroyed, more of a cheeky nibble.
Over all she is settling in like she's always been there, and they are very pleased with how things are going.
