The voluntary work Jenny and Stuart started in July 2004 is a memorial to their darling Penny. Without her coming into their lives none of this would have happened.

Elsie is a very pretty black greyhound who simply didn't want to race. Quite a shy little girl she weighs 25.5 kg and when it's time to come in from the garden she's another Sangria !!!
Elsie is now living in the house with the others and has made one of the soft crates her chosen bed. She is good with children and other breeds of dogs, is house trained, spayed, inoculated, microchipped, walks nicely on the lead, but can be wary if she comes across something new to her and she travels well in the car

Went to her new home on Monday 4th July 2016

Elsie's Diary
* The branch kennel at the bottom of our garden is where Elsie and the other resident(s) will be for the first day or so until she gets to know the other greyhounds. She has use of our garden and paddock, and once she gets to know the other dogs she will be allowed in the house during the day and all the dogs will then take it in turn to sleep in the house at night, so they become use to sleeping in both the kennel and the house.

This morning Elsie went to the vets to be spayed. Leading her from the kennel on a lead she walked nicely with me until I handed her over to Stuart to walk the rest of the way to the van and be put in. No way was she going with him so I took her lead and we walked to the van together.
At the vets she weighed in at 25.5 kg. All went well with her spaying operation and when she arrived home in the afternoon we put her in the kennel where she could sleep things off in peace and comfort, cuddled into her thick duvet.

This morning when I opened the kennel door Lacey ran straight out, but Elsie was quite happy to stay where she was. I made her breakfast, put it in the stand in the kennel and shut the door into the garden so she could eat it when she wanted to and not have it stolen by the others. The camera in the kennel told me when she'd finished so I took her by the lead and led her in the house. Keeping her on the lead to stop her running into our bathroom and hiding as she did earlier I guided her to one of the soft crates we have in the living room. Once she was in I closed the mesh door to stop her coming out and within a minute or so she was laying down. Looking quite relaxed in her soft crate I opened the mesh door and she happily lay there watching all that was going on.

This afternoon Elsie went with Emily, one of our volunteers to meet her friend who lives near Kirkby Lonsdale. They were going for a walk with Sandy her friend's Border Terrier. We received a text saying the walk was going well and Elsie was taking no notice of little Sandy.
