Greyhounds in long-term fosterer homes:

CAN YOU TEMPORARILY FOSTER A GREYHOUND FOR US?

Fosterers are a valuable part of greyhound rescue in that another greyhound is living life away from the kennels and taking the first steps towards getting used to the family way of life. If you live in the South Lakes or the surrounding area and would like to foster a greyhound until we can find him or her a new home.
please contact Jenny or Stuart
T: 015395 52394 or email us for more information

DOG WALKING

Bonnieis a beautiful ex-racing greyhound who comes from the litter belonging to Princess and Star and is a sibling of Hawkeye and Sparky. Born on the 23rd September 2012 she weighs 28.5 kg. She is a lovely friendly girl who is house trained, inoculated, microchipped and travels well in a car. When she first arrived she was scared of cyclists or wheels. Having put a bike in our garden and walking her with collar and harness close to us she has improved immensely. She is due to be spayed around the 25th July because she came in season just after she arrived which was suppressed.

Went to her new home on Friday 9th June 2017.

Bonnie's Diary
16th April 2017
This afternoon Bonnie arrived and we introduced her to the other dogs including her 'Dad' Star.
20th April 2017
My goodness what an appetite Bonnie has, no matter how much I give her she always wants more and eats what she's given in seconds! I've seen fast eaters, but my goodness there is no messing about with her.
22nd April 2017
This morning we noticed a couple of drops of watery blood on the conservatory floor and after an examination of all the dogs we discovered it was Bonnie - she had started her season!
Having phoned the vets asking if we could bring her in to be suppressed we were informed they had insufficient serum, some would be ordered and could we take her in on Tuesday morning. Oh dear this was not good and things were made somewhat difficult with the other dogs. It explains why she was eating so much, always on the hunt for more and a bit grumpy with some of the others.
25th April 2017
This morning Bonnie went to the vets to be suppressed and weighed in at 28.5 kg. As this inoculation can take about a week to stop her season properly we had to postpone a male dog due to arrive in tomorrow until next week.
Bonnie will need to be spayed 3 months from now ie: 25th July.
4th May 2017
All the dogs were in our living room as is normal when we serve the bed and breakfast guests their breakfast. They had just left and we were clearing away when we heard an 'incident' coming from the living room. By the time we got there it had stopped. It was only later we noticed a nip on Abel's side. From it's location we knew he'd been nipped trying to mount Bonnie. Abel needed veterinary treatment involving about 6 stitches. Oh dear I hope he learns to leave her alone and I hope all signs and smells of her season disappear soon!
