Rebel

Rebel arrived on Sunday 19th February 2017
Went to his new home on Thursday 2nd March 2017.
Sadly Rebel died in a freak accident on Tuesday 7th March 2017
when he ran into a fence and broke his neck. He died instantly.
R.I.P. our handsome boy, taken from us far too soon, run and play with the angels.

Rebel is a black and white ex-racing greyhound who was the quietest one in the litter, which included Denise, Billy, Crystal and Dotty so he was born on the 16th December 2013. He's neutered, inoculated, microchipped and weighs 32kg. He is good on the lead, okay with children and other breeds of dogs including small ones and he travels well in a car.

Went to his new home on Thursday 2nd March 2017.

Rebel's Diary
* The branch kennel at the bottom of our garden is where Rebel and the other resident(s) will be for the first day or so until he gets to know the other greyhounds. He has use of our garden and paddock, and once he gets to know the other dogs he will be allowed in the house during the day and all the dogs will then take it in turn to sleep in the house at night, so they become use to sleeping in both the kennel and the house.

7th March 2017
We heard this evening from Rebel's new owners that he'd died this afternoon at 4pm in a freak accident and they were devastated. They had been walking him around their field on a lead since they adopted him and this afternoon they decided to let him have a run. There were no livestock in the field or any attached to it so they thought it safe. He'd been running around and playing which they thought lovely to watch when he suddenly swerved and ran flat out. They couldn't see what he'd seen and he disappeared between some bushes. When his owner reached him he found him dead. He'd broke his neck at the fence and died instantly - there had been no yelp, bark or scream, nothing, no sound at all so it must have been instant. His owners were shocked and thought he'd seen a rabbit or something and went after it not seeing the fence behind the bushes.
He is now buried in a corner of their land alongside their German Shepherd who'd passed away recently from old age.
9th March 2017
Because of the nature and suddeness of Rebel's death we visited his owners today to see where it happened and to have a chat about the circumstances.
It was a freak accident, one we'd never experienced before and the circumstances upset and unsettled us all. Rebel was a lovely friendly dog who was only young and to be taken from us all this way and so soon after his arrival was devastating.
He wasn't with us long and he may be with us no longer, but we shall never forget him. It was all so upsetting that we can no longer call a dog Rebel at our Branch ever again. If one comes in he will have to be given another name.
On the 28th March 2017 Rebel's owners adopted Buddy, who is helping them get over the loss of Rebel and has settled with them well. He is a lovely calm dog and is quite happy to walk off lead in the field alongside his owner.

Rest in Peace young Rebel
Gone but never to be forgotten.

and fly with the wind.
