Seve - Black Greyhound

Seve is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in April 2012 and weighs 37.4kg.
He was born in the racing kennels and after he'd finished racing he remained there for 2 years waiting for a place in a rescue centre until he came here.
Seve is house trained, neutered, inoculated and microchipped. When he arrived he missed his kennel mate at night and wimpered until Katie on the third night joined him and he settled. Seve was the one the other pups in the litter tended to bully and he enjoys companionship. He is a very happy, playful lad who loves being kissed and cuddled and will give you kisses back. He's super on the lead, loves meeting people, is okay with other breeds of dogs and children, travels well in a car, but can become frightened if he's left on his own in the house hence us wanting to find him a home where he won't be left on his own, or one with a companion he can live with.

RESERVED

Mary is a black ex-racing greyhound who is 5 years old. She is house trained, spayed, inoculated, microchipped and has a lovely friendly nature. She is super with children, walks lovely on the lead, travels well in a car and is cat trainable.

REHOMED: Friday 14th April

Legend is a handsome black ex-racing greyhound who was born on the 30th July 2013. His inoculations are up to date and he's microchipped.
Legend is an affectionate lad with a friendly nature, walks okay on the lead and travels well in a car.

REHOMED: Wednesday 12th April

Abel - white & fawn greyhound

During 2012 we fostered and re-homed Abel, but due to changes in his family's circumstances it was thought best if he be returned to us and we find him a new forever home.
Abel has been living in a home with a whippet since 2012 and he's a lovely dog who was born on the 3rd October 2008. He is neutered, house trained and microchipped, is good with children, walks nicely on the lead, travels well in a car and is okay with other breeds of dogs, although he can get somewhat excited at the prospect of meeting them. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Tigan is a pretty, tiny black female greyhound who was born on the 3rd October 2013. She is house trained and microchipped.
Tigan is a happy, friendly and playful girl who loves her soft toys and will fetch balls back to you - both footballs and smaller balls. She walks okay on the lead, travels well in a car, is fine with children and other breeds of dogs.

RESERVED

Dawn - black Greyhound

Dawn

Dawn is a black ex-racing greyhound who was born in May 2012.
Dawn is house trained, inoculated and microchipped. In November 2016 she broke a toe on her back foot so was retired from racing. She is now fully fit again and looking for her forever home. She is about 27 kilos and has a lovely gentle nature, gets on fine with other breeds of dogs, loves people and was popular at the kennels . - Can you help us find her a new home?

Susie
(cat trainable)
Susie is a lovely black ex-racing greyhound who is cat trainable. Born on the 6th November 2012 she is a very gentle girl who walks nicely on the lead, is fine with children and travels well in a car.

POTENTIALLY RESERVED

Bonnie
Bonnie is a beautiful ex-racing greyhound who comes from the litter belonging to Princess and Star and is a sibling of Hawkeye and Sparky. She is a lovely girl and travels well in a car, but at the moment is frightened of cyclists - Can you help us find her a new home?

Sparky - white & blue Greyhound

Sparky is a white and blue male greyhound who is coming here on the 26th April.
Born in September 2013, he weighs 31.3 kg. and his inoculations are up to date. From what we've been told he's okay on the lead, travels well in a car, ignores other breeds of dogs when out walking, is okay with children and loves attention.

George
George is a black ex-racing greyhound who is coming here shortly. He is 5 years old and weighs 38 kg. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Bobby
Bobby is a 30kg. black ex-racing greyhound who broke his tibia and is undergoing recovery at the moment. He will be coming here towards the end April or into May.
Born in September 2014 he is a quiet, placid dog who is very friendly and okay with children. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Quest
Quest is a male fawn greyhound who fractured his hock and is strapped up for the next 2 months. If it transpires he doesn't want to race anymore he will be coming here. He is inoculated and microchipped. At 18 months old he weighs 36kg and with him still being a pup we are told he tends to pull a bit on the lead. The kennel Quest is coming from has a collie X and he's used to him milling around the kennels and he is okay around children. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Teddy
Teddy is a blue ex-racing greyhound who is coming here shortly. He weighs about 34 kg and from what we've been told he can sometimes be a bit enthusiastic going for walks, really wants to be friends, is a bit of a handfull at times and likes to lick you. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Sonya - white & black Greyhound

Sonya

Sonya is a pretty white and black greyhound who is coming here shortly. - Can you help us find her a new home?

King
King is a black ex-racing greyhound who is coming here shortly. He was born on the 10th August 2010 and weighs 32.66 kg.
As a pup King fell on hard times and was sleeping on concrete. When his current owner/trainer heard about him and the condition he was in he immediately acquired King. King was covered in weeping sores and had no hair on his body apart a line down his back.
King is fit and well but the hair on his back end won't come back because the hair folicals are ruined. We've been told he travels well, has a bit of a boisterous nature and pulls a bit on the lead but he's fine with children. - Can you help us find him a new home?

Another greyhound is coming here shortly. - Can you help us find him or her a new home?

If you see a Greyhound listed above as waiting to come in here no longer listed, it is because the dog has either been re-homed direct by it's owner or trainer or, it has gone into another rescue centre.

ABOUT US:
We've had greyhounds since April 1997 and between July 2004 and November 2009 we fostered 82 for Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue. During December 2009 we established the SOUTH LAKES branchof the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT). We have now fostered and re-homed in excess of 400 greyhounds.
Being in the South Lakes we are situated at the southern end of the English Lake District in Cumbria at Witherslack, which is half way between Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. As fosterers it is our passion to help greyhounds through the transition stage from kennels to home life, helping them to adapt to the family way of life and being part of our family until they find their forever homes. The voluntary work we do is a memorial to our darling Penny.

WHY ADOPT A GREYHOUND?

Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They are for life, not just for racing. They all deserve a second chance. Greyhounds are elegent, very intelligent, tend to be laid back, lazy if given the chance, need little exercise, often just two, half hour walks a day. Greyhounds thrive on love and affection, adapt quickly to the family way of life and make very gentle and loyal pets.

Many thousands of Greyhounds are bred each year in the UK and Ireland and thousands of puppies and youngsters are put to sleep because they don't make the grade for racing. The average age of a Greyhound coming into 'Rescue' is 3 to 4 years old when they are no longer needed. However, the normal life expectancy of a Greyhound is between 12 and 15 years - the longest living of the larger breeds of dog means they have many years ahead of them once they are no longer needed for racing Only a very small percentage are the lucky ones who are re-homed.

JENNY & STUART'S
CURRENT
GREYHOUNDS

White and black Greyhound
Lena came into our lives
on the 23rd May 2013. Not
quite 2 years old she didn't
make the grade for racing,
but she raced headlong
into our hearts and home.

Fawn Greyhound

Star came into our lives on the 18th October 2015. When our 4 month old grand daughter cried for her bottle, he came over and rested his head on her shoulder and within a minute she was calm. It sealed his future with us.

Robbie - black Greyhound

We had Robbie a year before we found him a lovely home. Sadly shortly after he was attacked by 2 off lead terriers and he needed veterinary care. His new owners lost confidence and Robbie came back where he became the newest member of our family.
